The Subterra Solution
Subterra builds, owns and operates a geothermal energy system on behalf of the developer.
Subterra's System provides clean and renewable thermal energy to building owners
Developer Capital Avoidance
Meet Stringent Green Building Codes
Subterra designs, installs, monitors, maintains and owns the geothermal system, reducing developer capital cost commitments and risk.
Integrating geothermal into the design of new buildings helps developers align with city planning goals and future building codes, expediting the building approval and development process.
Geothermal systems allow developers to eliminate many conventional HVAC system components, freeing up extra saleable floor area.
Energy Price Protection For Residents
Reduction of Harmful
Building owners and residents realize cost savings and contribute to sustainability in the community.
Geothermal heating and cooling systems are significantly more efficient than other conventional systems, capable of achieving energy savings between 60-80%.
Customized Solutions For Your Building
Subterra take’s a holistic approach to designing our systems in conjunction with our developer partners. No two buildings are the same, and that's why we’ve created a process to determine the best solution whatever the unique characteristics of a particular building or site. Every project is designed to optimize the value of your development.
We believe in delivering a complete building solution. That’s why we have flexible options to ownership of not only the geothermal field, but the entire building’s heating and cooling system, whether that’s a supplementary boiler, cooling tower, or even heat pumps in-suite. With Subterra, you can be confident that all of your HVAC bases are covered.

How Does Subterra's Technology Work?
Subterra's geothermal heating and cooling system works by exchanging heat energy between your building and the ground. Geothermal heat pumps are able to capture the energy (heat) from the earth and transfer the heat into the building to provide an economical and environmentally friendly form of heating (and cooling).
Do Subterra's Systems Generate Electricity?
Subterra's Geothermal systems produce thermal energy for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water only and do not generate electricity.
How Much Will It Cost To Install This System In My New Development?
Subterra will own, operate and maintain the entire system.
Can Subterra Help Developers Achieve Enhanced Building Codes Such As The Toronto Green Standard (TGS)?
Subterra's geothermal system can substantially reduce a building's energy use intensity (EUI) and Greenhouse Gas Intensity (GHGI) which are two major components of the TGS Energy Efficiency, GHG, and Resilience metrics.
How Does Working With Subterra Affect My Critical Path?
Borehole drilling is the most challenging part of the system installation process. In most cases, Subterra is able to drill from grade on a flat site and cut and crimp the ground heat exchanger for future retrieval. This can be done either before or during the shoring process to minimize any impact on the critical path.
What Does Subterra Own?
Subterra designs a custom solution based on unique development goals. In most cases, all components that make up the geothermal energy system from the ground loops to the central heat exchanger, and any hybrid components (e.g. boilers, cooling towers).
